Videogames: A Source Of Good Music

How often have you had a good time playing a game and during that experience, a tune playing in the background adds to that good time? I have often played something and suddenly a melody would grab me and smack me around, forcing me to find out what the name of that song is, who made it and how I can get a hold of it to add it to my MP3 playlist. I really enjoy that feeling and I’ve realized that the music selection offered in video games are like hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Listening to those songs outside of the game helps add value to the memory of that experience. The only issue I might have is how the outside world can’t understand how they heard me playing a familiar Rihanna song immediately followed by Hikari (Simple and Clean), the theme to Kingdom Hearts by Hikaru Utada.

Shall We Fight Alone, or All Together?

The master Bruce Lee said this in his best, most dramatic movie Fists of Fury. In the movie he alluded to the fact that he knew the bad guys were going to jump him once they figured out they could not beat him one on one. I mention it here today to spotlight the difference between how we all used to play video games and how we can choose to play now.

Good Bad Guys? Bad Good Guys?

I get excited by shows that surprise me or give me elements that I can identify with. When you empathize with a character you tend to become attached; you begin to cheer them on because you feel you have something in common with them. Of course when characters are written as more than ‘one-dimensional’ puppets, they also feel more real and usually that’s when growth happens. It’s amazing when a show can make you empathize with the villains as much, if not more so, then the heroes. In fact I think it is the mark of a great storyteller when the difference between the two (the hero and the villain) become very hard to distinguish.
